Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) is a federal program that allows federal student loans to be forgiven under specific circumstances.

We take pride in offering our team members access to a wide range of benefits and services. Because we are a non-profit organization, team members who meet specific criteria may qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). This federal program allows certain student loans to be forgiven after 10 years of on-time, qualifying monthly payments for employees of a not-for-profit organization.

This program is not sponsored by Children’s Nebraska. The information included below is provided as a resource for team members interested in student loan forgiveness for public employees.

Eligibility

To qualify you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must not be in default on the loans for which you are requesting forgiveness.

  • You must be employed full-time (at least .75 FTE or 30 hours a week) by a public service organization (such as Children’s Nebraska) for 10+ years when making each of the required 120 qualifying loan payments at the time you apply for nonprofit loan forgiveness and at the time the remaining balance on your eligible loans is forgiven.

  • You must have made 120 separate monthly payments to your student loan(s) on or after Oct. 1, 2007.

  • The qualifying loan you received must be issued under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program or another federal loan program that is consolidated into a Direct Consolidation Loan.
