Behavioral Health & Wellness Center

The Behavioral Health & Wellness Center at Children’s Nebraska, built in partnership with the Mental Health Innovation Foundation, will open in early 2026. The facility will provide comprehensive, world-class behavioral healthcare and offer a full spectrum of mental health services to meet the growing needs of children and adolescents in Nebraska and the Midwest.

Located adjacent to our main hospital campus in Omaha, the Behavioral Health & Wellness Center at Children’s ensures pediatric behavioral health patients can easily access the essential medical care they need. This prime location provides a more convenient and supportive experience for families.

A World-Class Facility for Children’s Mental Healthcare

The Behavioral Health & Wellness Center at Children’s significantly increase our community’s capacity for children’s mental healthcare. The center is the first of its kind in our community and among fewer than a dozen similar facilities nationwide.

Across more than 100,000 square feet of treatment space, the center will provide a wide range of services including inpatient and outpatient mental health care, as well as an urgent care and assessment center to screen children experiencing a mental health crisis. The center will also increase the number of beds available for partial hospitalization, which is a hybrid program between inpatient and outpatient care that provides therapy and educational support. Additional amenities include an experiential kitchen to help patients participating in Children’s Eating Disorders program.

The comprehensive services offered at the Behavioral Health & Wellness Center at Children’s Nebraska will ensure care for the whole child, as well as improve access to mental health services for youth and their families.

Meeting an Urgent Need for Mental Health Services

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a rise in mental health challenges and increased suicide risk among children and teens. Suicide has become the second-leading cause of death for young people in the United States, and Nebraska exceeds the national rate of suicide deaths among teens ages 15 to 19.

The Behavioral Health & Wellness Center at Children’s Nebraska is the next step in our commitment to serve young patients and their families, as well as bringing hope and healing to those facing mental health challenges and strengthening our community.
