Survivorship Clinic

At Children’s Nebraska, we recognize surviving childhood cancer is only part of the journey. Thanks to advancements in cancer treatment, many children diagnosed with cancer are now surviving into adulthood, but the road to recovery can be challenging. After treatment, some survivors experience long-term health problems, known as late effects, which can appear years later. These effects can vary depending on the type of cancer treatment your child received, but with dedicated screening and follow-up care, we help identify potential issues early to ensure your child’s wellbeing.

Children’s Survivorship Clinic provides specialized follow-up care for childhood cancer and bone marrow transplant survivors. Our multidisciplinary team offers comprehensive services, including medical care, survivor-specific resources and ongoing education about potential health risks. With close monitoring and personalized care, we aim to optimize your child’s long-term health, supporting their transition into adulthood while maintaining a high quality of life.

Your child will have a care team that specializes in their health and wellbeing during childhood, adolescence or young adulthood after cancer treatment. Children’s Survivorship team is lead pediatric oncologists and includes:

• Pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant physicians and nurse practitioners

• Nurse case managers

• Social workers

• Physical therapists

• Psychologists

• Cardiologists

• Other subspecialists, as needed

Eligibility

The Survivorship Clinic is available to children, adolescents and young adults up to age 21 who were treated for childhood cancer and have been off therapy for at least 2 years. The Survivorship Clinic is held two to three times a month. Appointments include meeting with multiple specialists in one visit.

Children’s Survivorship Clinic specializes in monitoring and managing long-term health conditions that can arise after cancer treatment, including cardiovascular, endocrine and cognitive issues, as well as providing support for emotional well-being and physical rehabilitation.

Our dedicated team of pediatric experts collaborate to provide comprehensive care and guidance for childhood cancer survivors, ensuring their ongoing health and wellbeing.

The Survivorship Clinic is located at Children’s Nebraska, where we offer a convenient, centralized care setting with access to specialized providers and resources to support pediatric cancer survivors in their long-term health journey.
