At Children’s Nebraska, we understand how challenging this time can be for both young patients and their parents. That’s why our Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology team offers specialized gynecologic care for children and teens. This care includes preventive health care education, as well as medical and surgical care for common to complex conditions.

The first visit to a gynecologist can be intimidating for many young patients. Children’s gynecologists are experts in providing compassionate healthcare — from general gynecologic care to specific concerns — and are here to make your visit as comfortable as possible.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends young patients have their first gynecologic visit between ages 13 and 15 to learn about preventive care and staying healthy. This first visit typically doesn’t include a pelvic exam unless your child has a specific problem that requires one.

Our providers will have a chance to speak to your child one-on-one and ask some personal questions about gynecologic concerns like periods and sexual health. You and your child can rest assured that this conversation is confidential and will include open, honest communication that will help us provide the best possible care.
