Our multidisciplinary team includes pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists, perfusionists, cardiac nurse practitioners, pediatric cardiac intensivists, physician assistants, cardiologists and nurses. Jagger’s Story: Heading Home After 548 Days in the Cardiac Care Unit

When Jagger was born prematurely with a congenital heart defect, his expected 6–8-week hospital stay stretched to 548 days in the Children’s Nebraska Neonatal Intensive Care and Cardiac Care Units. After numerous ups and downs with his condition, a long-awaited solution came in July 2023 when a life-changing biventricular repair meant he could finally head home.

The Grove Family’s Story: Heart Center Surgeon Receives Grateful Tribute

Through the life — and loss — of their infant son, Emmett, the Grove family found a lasting bond with Emmett’s heart surgeon, Dr. Ali Ibrahimiye. In welcoming a baby sibling this spring, the Groves decided on a special tribute, naming their newborn Abbott Ali in gratitude to the surgeon and team whose compassionate care has impacted their family for a lifetime.

That means your child will remain on one floor for their entire hospital stay. Working alongside Children’s physicians and specialists, the CCU team includes highly skilled nurses and advanced practice providers specially trained in providing exceptional care to pediatric patients with cardiovascular conditions.

Children’s is a certified Aetna Institute of Excellence for pediatric congenital heart surgery — a certification given to premier hospital programs that meet enhanced quality review criteria. Our Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program is also accredited by the Adult Congenital Heart Association and was the first in the nation to achieve reaccreditation.
