Paige's Story: Adult Congenital Heart Disease
Paige's incredible story is one of hope and resilience, from cardiac arrest to thriving in her personal and professional life. Find out how the Criss Heart Center team helped her defy the odds, leading to an exciting new chapter of engagement, dreams of starting a family and more.
There's nothing better than seeing a patient thrive after treatment. Paige, a longtime patient now in the Criss Heart Center’s Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) program, came to Children's with valve breakdown and endocarditis in 2018 and went into cardiac arrest in the Intensive Care Unit. She was saved with swift, decisive action by Children's Cardiac Care team before going on to receive a valve replacement.
Paige now owns a growing hairstyling business, and she delivered special news to her care team this spring: She's engaged and planning a wedding to her fiancé, Brett, in 2023!
"Children's means a lot to me and my family; we feel so indebted to them," Paige said. "Brett and I are excited to get a dog, get married and start a family. That's always been my dream. When I was younger, I was told I couldn't have kids, and when [Children's cardiologist] Dr. Jonathan Cramer told me I could, that was one of the best days of my life."
