Hi, I’m Shannon Godsil, and I’m a pediatrician at Children’s Physicians, Val Verde.

I knew from a young age that I wanted to work in medicine. I had told my kindergarten teacher that I wanted to be a doctor. It wasn’t until I started working with children that I knew that I could actually learn from kids. I learned things like patient resilience and then, more importantly, I really felt like I learned medicine. I felt like you could have fun while doing that, too.

I’m very much interested in preventative medicine. I’ve really been trying to focus on things like healthy eating. I mean it’s such a simple thing, but it’s really making a huge impact on a child’s life — and later life as an adult.

The best advice I can give is to ask a lot of questions. You know your child. Yes, we may be the experts when it comes to taking care of them physically, emotionally, mentally, but you know your child better than anyone does. So, let us be a team with you. Ask a ton of questions and make sure that you feel like we’re all on the same page. Let us talk everything through with you, so that you really understand the care of your child.
