What motivated you to become a pediatrician?
When my sister was four and I was five, she was diagnosed with type one diabetes. I went to the classes with her to learn how to optimize her diabetes and that was my first introduction to chemistry, science and medicine. It was very interesting to me and that’s when I learned that I wanted to help take care of people who had medical issues that they needed to take care of every day.
What is your favorite part about being a pediatrician?
The fun part about pediatrics is the children are of every age: from newborn babies to 21 years old. There is a lot of growth during that time.
What is your approach to caring for your patients?
Everyone is different. What they need is different and how they approach it is different. When you’re treating someone, you need to understand the background, how long it has been going on and what they tried. From there we can better understand what we might be able to do for them going forward.
