I’m Laura Nielsen, and I am a pediatrician at Children’s Physicians at West Village Pointe. My mother tells me that I was interested in being a pediatrician when I was in second grade — that’s what I told her. I remember going all through school, and whenever someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said a pediatrician. I feel very privileged to be the one that people trust with their kids, and I love supporting the families. I have been blessed to have three children of my own, who are now young adults. Because of that, I have gotten a lot of parenting experience over the years, which I can think can be helpful to my families. In addition, all three of my children had chronic medical issues at various times in their lives. I think that’s really helped me develop a lot of empathy for families. I know what it is to manage chronic illnesses and how it affects the whole family. I think it makes me more empathetic. I really see my role as more of a team member. The most important members of that team are the parents, and we’re here to support you. Our goal is to help you raise a healthy and well-adjusted young adult. Anything we can do to support families to do that is ideal.
