Area students love GoNoodle, an online suite of movement and mindfulness videos that activate young bodies and brains in the classroom. Children’s Nebraska has sponsored the free use of GoNoodle in Omaha area schools since 2014. During this past school year, nearly 60,000 Omaha metro students were active at school thanks to Children’s support, logging nearly 20 million minutes of physical activity.
With a generous grant awarded by Kohl’s in 2018, Children’s was able to bring GoNoodle into Lancaster County elementary classrooms. The Kohl’s partnership has provided more than 21,000 Lincoln area students with “brain breaks” during the school day; Lancaster County learners completed nearly 8 million minutes of movement during the 2018-19 school year.
GoNoodle helps students accumulate vital movement minutes through entertaining experiences that feature high-energy dance music, virtual field trips, mindfulness videos and physical challenges aligned with core competencies. Through increased movement and mindfulness in the classroom, elementary students are not only improving their health but also boosting their cognitive processing, focus and academic performance.
