Caffeine Guidelines 2020
Guidelines for the administration of caffeine for apnea of prematurity.
Myelomeningocele Guidelines – Last Revised November 2018
This guideline provides recommendations regarding the prenatal, perinatal, and perioperative management myelomeningocele, a type of open neural tube defects. Infants with skin-covered neural tube defects should be managed differently and would be excluded from these guidelines.
Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Guidelines – Last Revised April 2019
This guideline provides recommendations regarding assessment and treatment of neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome. Evidence to support one pharmacological regimen over others is limited; this recommendation is based upon the available evidence, including a meta-analysis suggesting that buprenorphine is the optimal treatment for neonatal abstinence syndrome. These recommendations only include management of newborns with in-utero exposure to opioids. Several other drugs may result in neonatal withdrawal symptoms; however, those infants are less likely to benefit from opioid administration, as outlined in this guideline. Ultimately, the final decision for care of the infant will be determined by the primary medical team.
Neuroimaging of Preterm Infants Guidelines – Last Revised August 2018
Passive Cooling
What to do if an infant qualifies for therapeutic hypothermia
Platelet Transfusion Guidelines – Last Reviewed April 2020
This guideline is intended for neonates and infants admitted to the NICU. The goal of platelet transfusion is to maintain and/or restore appropriate coagulation and decrease the risk for bleeding.
Stroke guidelines – Last Revised October 2019
This guideline provides recommendations regarding assessment and treatment of neonatal stroke. Neonatal stroke includes two primary pathologies – cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CSVT) and perinatal arterial ischemic stroke (PAIS), and as such, these guidelines will differentiate between the two when necessary. Ultimately, the final decision for care of the infant will be determined by the primary medical team.
Surgical Antibiotic Prophylaxis Guidelines – Last Revised May 2020
This guideline provides recommendations regarding perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis for neonates undergoing typical neurosurgical procedures (CSF diversion and myelomeningocele repair).
Therapeutic Hypothermia Guidelines – Last Revised September 2019
This guideline provides recommendations regarding transport, assessment, and treatment of neonatal encephalopathy. The primary management centers around therapeutic hypothermia for hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, although etiologies other than HIE must be considered in any infant with encephalopathy.
