Treatments & Services

Children’s Physicians is a Patient-Centered Medical Home. This means we focus care on the health needs of the whole child, including medical, behavioral, and social. We offer behavioral health services in our offices to address issues involving anxiety, depression, potty training, and discipline. We also offer medical social workers and nurse case managers who advocate for patients and families, as well as identify and overcome barriers to good health.

Our pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants can do the following:

  • Perform regular check-ups, physical exams, and medical screenings:
    • We look for signs and symptoms of many disorders, such as asthma, depression or anemia. One such screening, the M-CHAT (Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers), helps us detect autism in young children.
  • Diagnose and treat illnesses and other health conditions, such as ear infections, strep throat, or the flu
  • Provide vaccines, including measles, chicken pox, HPV, meningitis, and seasonal flu vaccine
  • Work with specialists to manage chronic disorders, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or diabetes
  • Order needed tests, such as lab work and X-rays
  • Counsel your family on preventative care and good health
  • Provide educational resources
  • Perform school and sports physicals

If your child needs dental care, Children’s has a partnership with University of Nebraska Medical Center. The dental clinic is located on the second floor of the Specialty Pediatric Center at Children’s Nebraska.

Common Over-the-Counter Medication Dosing Amounts for Children

As parents, ensuring the health and well-being of our children is of utmost importance. However, when it comes to administering medications, it’s crucial to have accurate information to make informed decisions. Reference these articles to cover the use of acetaminophen (Tylenol), diphenhydramine (Benadryl), and ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) for fever and pain management in children.

About Pediatric Care

  • Why does my child need a pediatrician?

Pediatricians receive up to 24 times more training in the specialized care of children than other types of doctors and healthcare providers. This means we know about trends in children’s health, like bugs going around, procedures that are best for kids, and the best practices for treating certain conditions in kids that may be different for adults.

Because we care solely for children and adolescents up to age 21, we are always up-to-date on the latest research in pediatric medicine and the best treatments.

  • How often should my child see their pediatrician for a check-up?

Regular check-ups (also called well-child visits) ensure that your child is growing up healthy and strong. Here is our recommended schedule for when your child should have a regular check-up:
    Infant Toddler Child/Adolescent
2 days old 12 months old Once a year from age 3 through age 21
2 weeks old 15 months old As needed for school or sports physicals
2 month old 18 months old
4 months old  24 months old (age 2)
6 months old  30 months old
    9 months old
  • What should I look for in a pediatrician?

To help you choose a pediatrician that fits well with your family’s needs, consider:
    • Think about your preferences. Are you looking for a provider who speaks a specific language, has certain availability, is the same gender as your child?
    • Ask your own doctors, family members, co-workers, and friends for recommendations for a good pediatrician.
    • Check with your health insurance provider to see which pediatricians are covered under your plan.
    • Find out whether the pediatrician is board-certified. Board-certified providers meet standards above and beyond what is required for a medical license and undergo ongoing training to stay up-to-date with the latest in pediatric care.
    • Schedule a Get-to-Know-You visit. Children’s Physicians does not charge for this visit.

For Providers: Return to Play After COVID-19

All patients who have had COVID-19 — whether recently or at the beginning of the pandemic, and whether it was severe or asymptomatic — should consult a provider before returning to play. Take this assessment to see if your patient should see a primary care provider, sports medicine provider, or cardiologist.
